In this (supposed to be prequel), we’re going back to 1988 to the first two Paranormal Activity movies protagonists Kristi and Katie’s childhood. The movie began when Katie found a whole stack of VHS tapes in her house and gave it to Kristi. Apparently, the tapes were taken during their childhood by their mother’s boyfriend, Dennis. Working as video maker for weddings, Dennis began installing cameras all over the house to catch the supernatural being supposedly living in their house.
Lauren Bitner who plays the girls’ mother, Julie, admits that playing in this movie is different from the conventional ones she’s been through. “With conventional projects, you go in, you have your pages, you do your memorization or whatever you do to prepare. So this was a little scarier. It was a looser situation. Going in, I never knew quite where the day was going or where it was ultimately going to end. So that was pretty challenging but also really fun.”
In case you’re curious, nope, there was no actual paranormal activity happened on set while filming the third one other than "The crew tried to scare us," says Christopher Smith who plays Dennis.
