Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2

Umesh Bhagchandani
04 July 2011

Since 2001, Harry Potter has successfully spellbound everyone, kids and adults alike into the magical world of a teenage wizard battling the evil personified - Lord Voldemort. This second part begins where Part 1 ended, and continues to the Gringott’s Break-In, Hogsmeade, and returning to their wizardry school for The Battle of Hogwarts.

The first part of Deathly Hallows earned massive respect from critics and fans for sticking true to the book. Last year’s Harry Potter and the Deathly Eallows was the third highest grossing film of the year. Now, with $125 Million on the budget, we can expect extravagant special effects to color the last journey of Harry.

On an interview with Colliders, Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley) shared his experience about the most anticipated movie of 2011, “The battle sequences are great, I think. It was just so big and epic; there was one scene in the courtyard where it's one big, continuous shot and they have five cameras picking up everything, and there are giants and fire and big craters. Even for Harry Potter, it felt really huge.”

Part 2’s pre-production began on January 26, 2009, while the filming itself starts from February 19, 2009 and ended on June 12, 2010 (for both parts). The shooting took place in Leavesden and Pinewood Studios in England, UK. Imagine having to spend a year and half to make all of those magic happen. Dig this, most of the events in this film, from the raid of Gringott’s to the battle of Hogwarts is only a single day in the film, but took the most time in the shooting!

Portraying Harry Potter’s nemesis, Tom Felton (Draco Malfoy) is missing his role already, “One of my last scenes as a group was us, 19 years on, on the platform at King's Cross. That was really quite fitting, because one of my first scenes was as a 10 year old being put on the train there, ten years ago literally to the day, so it was really weird and suitable that fit.”

The cast have spent half of their childhood in the Harry Potter series. So it’s a new beginning for them to embark a new adventure! HET gives you the sneak peak on their upcoming projects worth waiting for.

Daniel Radcliffe

Daniel recently starred on a Broadway musical ‘How to Succeed in Business without Really Trying.’He said that he performs better on stage than on screen coz there were rarely any breaks from the character. In a film he could be done for the day, gets apart from his character in the film. You think that statement’s overrated? Well, the production was nominated for 11 Tony Awards – the Oscars for theater!

If you’re not into musicals, don’t worry, he has an upcoming movie The Woman in Black which will be released in 2012. He describes it as “Slow-burning Victorian Gothic film" which frightened him, curious?

Emma Watson

She cut her hair short after she is done with Hermione Granger, and she’s in college now! Nonetheless, Emma Watson still has time for movies, she currently stars in My Week with Marilyn with Oscar nominee co-star, Michelle Williams, and Stephen Chbosky’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower, another best-selling novel based movie.

Rupert Grint

Often seen as a comic relief in the Harry Potter series, Rupert Grint ‘breaks free’, takes his chance and signs three movie deals! Playing a variety of characters, he’s starring in a sport comedy movie Eddie the Eagle (2011), a horror thriller Cross Country (2011) and Comrade, an action history film. We are eager to watch them all, how about you?

Tom Felton

Consistently being an adversary to the protagonist trio, Tom Felton has proven himself as a talented young actor. After the end of ‘Draco Malfoy’, we will see Tom in five movies set to release in 2011 and 2012 respectively. His upcoming movies are From the Rough, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, The Apparition, Grace and Danger and Evac. This busy bee is on an acting  spree!
